Privacy Policy

1. Purposes

Our Privacy Policy explains why IRSEA collects personal information, what types of information we may collect or may be available on this website, and how your information may be used.

We collect members’ and visitors’ personal information to enable IRSEA to achieve its objectives, including communicating with you, internal recordkeeping, and providing services to existing and prospective members.

IRSEA’s Privacy Policy outlines our commitment to protecting the privacy of the personal information that we may collect via our website or directly from you. We apply the same levels of protection to any of your personal information that third parties may provide to us.

As a NSW incorporated association, IRSEA operates under the provisions of the Privacy Act 1988 (Commonwealth). Please read our Privacy Policy carefully. When you use the IRSEA website and/or supply us with personal information, you are acknowledging that you have had the opportunity to read this Privacy Policy and that you accept it. If you have any questions or concerns about the Policy, please contact us by email or by completing the Contact Us form on the website.

2. Sources and types of personal information we collect

IRSEA collects a variety of personally identifying information in several ways. You provide personal information when you apply to be a member, when you interact with us to share ideas with colleagues, and when you support IRSEA’s activities and administrative procedures.

Personal information may include your name, address, email address, telephone number, past experience, membership status, demographic characteristics, photograph, and attendance at events, as well as your views, preferences and opinions.

You will provide most of your personal information through your membership application form and any updates of your membership profile. You may provide personal information to us directly, in person or via written or electronic means, or indirectly, as a result of your use of our services. This could be through your use of our website, online forms, member surveys, contributions to our Newsletters, applications to attend activities, and in the form of photographs taken at our meetings and other events.

From time to time, we may contact you to request that you respond voluntarily to optional questionnaires, surveys or ‘market research’ and to provide your opinions and feedback.

Other members may occasionally refer to you in their written contributions and correspondence. Sadly, IRSEA’s Newsletter regularly includes a Valete section.

When you access IRSEA’s website, including logging into members’ pages, we may record details such as your location; device, internet browser and network data; username; statistics on page views and session times; searches and browsing behaviour; and any other information requested by us and/or provided by you. Some of this information is not personal information because it does not reveal your identity.

IRSEA’s website contains links to the websites of other organisations for convenient access. We do not accept any responsibility for the content of those websites or for their privacy practices or policies.

3. IRSEA’s use and disclosure of your personal information

IRSEA uses personal information to carry out the responsible and legitimate activities and purposes set out in this Policy, and to which you consent by your participation.

IRSEA uses your personal information to:

  • maintain the effective and efficient operations of our internal administrative and financial records and processes
  • send you IRSEA Newsletters, and notices of face-to-face and Zoom meetings
  • enable you to access and use IRSEA’s website
  • provide you with services and activities and information about them
  • communicate with you to enhance our relationships
  • foster collegiality, ongoing friendship and networking, including the provision of contact details for non-commercial, acceptable purposes
  • enable website analytics and developmental research to improve our website
  • comply with legislation, as required.

IRSEA maintains a register of members specifying the name, postal or residential address, telephone number and email address of each person who is a member of IRSEA. The register is kept as up to date as available information allows. This register is open for inspection by any IRSEA member.

IRSEA does not accede to third party requests to make members’ personal information available to them, other than as required by law.

4. Objections to disclosure, and correction of personal information

If you do not wish to provide personal information to IRSEA, you do not have to do so. Declining to provide information may affect our correspondence with you and your use of IRSEA’s website and/or services offered on it.

IRSEA recognises that our members’ privacy and the privacy of others who share information with us is important, and that they have the right to control it. You can request access to your personal information that we hold by contacting us by email or via the contact form on this website.

Any IRSEA member may apply to obtain a copy of any part of the register of members. If a member requests that any information contained on the register not be available for inspection by other members, IRSEA does not make that information available.

Some personal information may be available on public facing website pages, in accessible Newsletters and on ‘members only’ website pages. These items may be published as part of IRSEA’s promotion of its objects, to engage viewers, and as a service to members.

If you object to a photograph that includes your image being published on the IRSEA website or in a Newsletter, please contact us by email. The photograph or an appropriate part of it will be removed or redacted on request.

If you object to being included in an article or membership list that mentions you, please contact us by email. The article or membership list or an appropriate part of it will be removed or redacted on request.

IRSEA relies on members, their colleagues and families advising us when personal information changes. Please contact us by email if any information we hold is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading. We undertake to respond to any request to amend our records within a reasonable time.

If you believe that IRSEA has not adequately complied with the Australian Privacy Principles and wish to make a suggestion or complaint about our Privacy procedures, please contact us by email or via the contact form on this website.
